Weekly Parent Support Group Meetings
On Thursday, September 15, 2016, the New Canaan Parent Support Group (NCPSG) was launched with our first parent support meeting in a local church with a small group of interested parents. Paul Reinhardt’s vision, in tribute to his son Evan who died of a drug overdose on July 15, 2015, was to find a way to channel his family’s tragedy into something that could benefit the local community.
Since that initial meeting, over 200 parents have attended at least one of NCPSG’s support meetings. Our meetings take place every Thursday, from 7-8:30pm, in the Library Room of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge in New Canaan.
In our opinion, our weekly meeting is the backbone of our mission to support and educate. With a safe space in the church and a licensed clinician as our facilitator, our parents share confidentially about their situations and gain insights from others’ experiences. They also learn about the importance of self-care.
We believe
…and the evidence confirms—that family support is one of the best predictors of successful long-term recovery of our loved ones.
