Stephen Chapin Garner is Senior Pastor at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, who I have gotten to know as we plan our 8th Annual Community Addiction Awareness Vigil. Chapin has stepped forward to help lead the candlelight vigil ceremony of the Vigil, and we are very grateful.
Here are some facts about Chapin: 1) He is a graduate of the BU School of Theology and has taught preaching there as well. 2) He has his Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; 3) he’s a native “New Yorker”, having grown up across the border from New Canaan in Westchester County; 4) he has a wife and two children, and lives in New Canaan; and 5) he is an author of several books including Practicing What Jesus Preached (2023), Scattering Seeds” Cultivating Church Vitality, and Getting into Character: The Art of First-Person Narrative Preaching.
Chapin has been a steady presence at our Addiction Awareness Vigils over the years. He even donated his church grounds when we need to film the candlelight ceremony for inclusion in our 2020 Virtual Vigil. I thank Chapin for all the support of our cause over the years, and welcome his stepping up to lead the candlelight segment this year.
