A Burning Desire: Dharma God and the Path of Recovery, Kevin Griffin

A Burning Desire is a gift for those who struggle with the 12-Step programs because of the focus on the
need to surrender to a Higher Power. Kevin Griffin describes his view of a “Middle Way”, where the
Dharma (teachings of the Buddha) can be understood as a Higher Power. The author draws on his
experience with addiction and recovery, and how meditation and spiritual practices gave him joy when
he feared that sobriety was not going be fun. Kevin is the author of 5 books and is a leader of the
mindful recover movement and one of the founders of the Buddhist Recovery Network.
“The spiritual experience isn’t one of filling ourselves up— with either religious or intellectual
Kevin Griffin
beliefs—but of emptying ourselves so that we can experience what is, directly, unfiltered.”
