Dr. Beth Epstein received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Connecticut and is a licensed psychologist in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey.  She is an expert in the use of CBT and other evidence-based strategies in psychotherapy.  In addition to years of experience treating a range of disorders, Dr. Epstein has a strong specialty in assessment and treatment of Addiction. She is also a nationally recognized National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant-funded psychotherapy researcher developing CBT treatments for addiction and related problems (depression, anxiety, family distress).

Dr. Epstein has worked with patients struggling with depression, sadness, anxiety, stress, alcohol or drugs, gambling, bipolar disorders, marital problems, unsatisfying relationship patterns, emotion regulation, challenges related to life-transitions (divorce, separation, illness, grief, relocation), low self-esteem, perfectionism, illness or substance use of a loved one, and adult ADHD.  She works with each patient as a team to understand and resolve symptoms, unwanted habits, and unhealthy patterns as well as to identify strengths and resources so that patients can identify and attain their life goals.  She is experienced in Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Schema Therapy, and elements of mindfulness and acceptance-based therapies (ACT and DBT).  She provides individual, couple, family, and group therapies.

Dr. Epstein has trained and supervised over 100 clinical psychology graduate students, and has taught graduate level courses on Adult Psychopathology; Lifespan Development; Cognitive Behavioral Assessment and Treatment; Assessment and Treatment of Alcohol and Drug Use Disorders. Professional association memberships include the American Psychological Association, the Association of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy, and the Research Society on Alcoholism.

My experience with individuals and group counseling is extensive. I began my career at Family Centers in Greenwich and Darien, CT, while also interning at Arms Acres in the Bronx, NY providing substance abuse prevention and counseling for children in residential foster care. From 2008 through 2020 I was the addiction and trauma specialist for The Center for Hope and Renewal in Greenwich, CT providing counseling to children, adolescents and families in Fairfield and Westchester counties. I started Hand in Hand Counseling in 2021.

I grew up in New York City, attended Phillips Academy (Andover), Hollins University, and earned my Masters in Social Work at NYU. I am an avid and competitive athlete and mother to two grown children.

Because people are experts of their own internal experiences, my role is one of empathic co-investigator to help identify maladaptive thinking and behaviors and, subsequently, to facilitate change in my patients. I also offer “state of the art” pharmacotherapy whenever it is indicated.
My training equipped me with an armamentarium of diverse cognitive-behavioral, strength-based, and psychodynamic therapeutic skills to complement biological treatments. I have the ability to prescribe buprenorphine (also known as Suboxone), for those with opiate abuse. I am skilled in the medical treatment of mood, anxiety, personality, and psychotic disorders.

Having served as senior vice president at Liberation Programs from 1996 to 2006, Hamilton brings an intimate knowledge of the agency, one of Fairfield County’s top behavioral health organizations.

In addition to his prior service at Liberation, Hamilton was the CEO of Bridgeport’s Recovery Network of Programs (RNP) for a decade. There, he was able to triple the size of the agency, exponentially increasing its community impact.

In parent coaching, working with or without your partner and child can open new areas of understanding and help you gain additional behavioral skills. And, working one-on-one to intercept and rewire unwanted neural patterns is essential when learning to manage anxiety and/or depression.
