Books of the Week

Starting 4 weeks ago, we added a Book of the Week post for our parents and all who could benefit. So far, we have featured the following books on social media including Facebook and Instagram:

Beyond Addiction: How Science and Kindness Help People Change, by Jeffrey Foote, Carrie Wilkens and Nicole Kosanke. Key quote: “Understanding—not condoning—why people do what they do gives us a much better chance of helping.”

In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction by Gabor Maté. Key quote: “It is impossible to understand addiction without asking what relief the addict finds, or hopes to find, in the drug or addictive behavior.”

Everything Changes: Help for Families of Newly Recovering Addicts, by Beverly Conyers. Key quote: “…few people achieve anything of significance–and being in recovery from addiction is a significant achievement—without help from others along the way.”

Grace in Addiction: The Good News of Alcoholics Anonymous for Everybody, by John Zahl. Key quote: “It is the love of God that does not let go. It brings good out of bad, and it sees hope where there is none. Grace always gives another chance.”

Please feel free to offer up suggestions for future book posts, and happy reading!
