A Year of Accomplishments with help from Partners

I just wanted to leave a short note to recognize all those community partners that helped make 2018 a banner year for the New Canaan Parent Support Group.  I’m thankful for:

  • The organizations who provided speakers for our Pathway Series, which took place at the New Canaan YMCA: Adventure Recovery, Aware Recovery Care, Dr. Frank Bartolomeo, Center for Motivation & Change, the harris project, Mountainside Treatment Center, Dr. Ruth Potee, Silver Hill Hospital, and Turnbridge.
  • The local organizations who helped us with our larger community events, e.g., Marijuana: Just the Facts (5/8/18) and the 2nd Annual Addiction Awareness Vigil (8/30/18): Mountainside Treatment Center, New Canaan Cares, New Canaan Chamber of Commerce, the New Canaan Coalition, New Canaan Community Foundation, NCHS SLOBs, Ram Council, Silver Hill Hospital, The Lighthouse CT, and the local faith community.
  • Our foundation partners who have helped us financially, so we can continue in 2019 with our twofold mission: 1) to give support to parents with loved ones affected by addiction, and 2) to educate and raise awareness about substance abuse, addiction and recovery in our community.  These partners who came forward with financial grants and donations included: the Exchange Club of New Canaan, Lions Club of NC, New Canaan Cares, New Canaan Community Foundation, Newport Academy, St. A’s Knights of Columbus, St. Mark’s Outreach Commission.
  • The speakers themselves, from Stephanie Marquesano talking about co-occurring disorders to start the year, to Tim Walsh talking about outdoor adventure as a pathway to long-term recovery.

Look for more us in 2019, with our first Pathway Session on January 16th, 7PM at the New Canaan Y and our first community event on Tuesday, March 5th at 7PM: Marijuana: Facts vs Myths.  Wishing you good health and happiness in the New Year!
